Vermoeide en/of pijnlijke benen zijn een typische ouderdomskwaal. De kwaal vermindert autonomie en levenskwaliteit van de lijder, hij of zij is minder in staat zelfstandig huishoudelijke of andersoortige taken uit te voeren. Meestal vallen de klachten onder twee veel voorkomende aandoeningen: perifeer arterieel vaatlijden of veneuze insufficiëntie. Bij de eerste aandoening is er een probleem met de bloedtoevoer naar de benen, bij de tweede is er een probleem met het terugpompen van het bloed. In dit artikel tasten we af in hoeverre voeding en leefstijl vermoeidheid in de benen kan helpen verlichten.
