'Aderverkalking' wordt vaak als synoniem gebruikt van atherosclerose, maar strikt gezien hoeft atherosclerose niet gepaard te gaan met verkalking en kan verkalking op niet-atherosclerotische wijze ontstaan. De impact van verkalking op de vaatgezondheid zit minder eenvoudig in elkaar dan het lijkt. Wat weten we over de impact van voeding en leefstijl op verkalking?
