Het prikkelbaredarmsyndroom (PDS) is een veel voorkomende kwaal met vaak aanzienlijke impact op de levenskwaliteit. Een precieze oorzaak is er niet en wetenschappers gaan ervan uit dat we die bij verschillende pathologieën zullen vinden. Algemeen wordt gesteld dat de oorzaak niet onmiddellijk bij voeding ligt, maar vele patiënten mijden bepaalde voedingsmiddelen, al dan niet terecht. De rol van voeding in relatie tot verschillende pathologische processen wordt in dit overzichtsartikel toegelicht.
