Stikstofmonoxide (NO) is een gasvormig, reactief molecule dat door de bloedvaten herkend wordt als signaal om te ontspannen. Een simpel principe, maar met verregaande implicaties. Het hele verhaal rond arteriosclerose kan herschreven worden met stikstofmonoxide als hoofdspeler. Arginine, nitraten en andere supplementen kunnen het metabolisme rond stikstofmonoxide ondersteunen.
