Honderden enzymen werken met vitamine B6. Een opmerkelijk aantal van die enzymen is betrokken in de synthese van neurotransmitters. Sommige mensen hebben een ontregeld vitamine B6-afhankelijk enzym geërfd, dus mogen we verwachten dat deze mensen gediend zullen zijn met extra vitamine B6. Die hypothese wordt in dit artikel eerst getoetst aan de hand van het ziektebeeld epilepsie. Ook andere mentale ziektebeelden passeren de revue, al is hierover beduidend minder onderzoek gevoerd.
