Het is gemeengoed: stress heeft invloed op de darmen en is een belangrijke factor in het prikkelbaredarmsyndroom (PDS). Minder bekend is dat het ook in omgekeerde richting werkt: darmen beïnvloeden onze psyche. Psychotherapieën als behandeling tegen PDS kennen dan ook een lange geschiedenis en worden steeds vaker opgenomen in de richtlijnen als evidence-based PDS-behandelingen.
