Hoe fijn stimulerende middelen ook kunnen zijn, de meeste brengen gezondheidsproblemen met zich mee. Soms mild, maar vaak ernstig of zelfs levensbedreigend. Ook voor de mondgezondheid kunnen tabak, alcohol en (hard)drugs grote gevolgen hebben. Hieronder komen deze drie categorieën aan bod. Wel dwingt het grote aantal recreatieve drugs dat op de markt is tot een selectie. Vervolgens wordt ingegaan op de effecten die voorgeschreven medicijnen kunnen hebben op mond en gebit.
