Essentieel met mate
Meer is niet altijd beter: dat zien we ook bij het essentiële aminozuur methionine. Essentieel wil zeggen dat het in de voeding aanwezig moet zijn. In de westerse voeding zit er alleszins meer dan genoeg en experimenteel onderzoek suggereert dat methionine-restrictie levensverlengend werkt, net zoals calorierestrictie. Maar klinisch onderzoek is nog niet ver geraakt. De stand van zaken.
